Description
The Clayfield Blue Label Pallah 2018 is a blend of Shiraz and Merlot from our Moyston vineyard. The Shiraz was produced from several special rows of vines that my mother Alison often pruned and harvested. The Merlot was drawn from the final crop yielded by our Merlot vines before they were replanted to Riesling. Blended initially in 2018 then transferred into a French oak barrique for maturation. The little barrel waited until its time was right, 49 months in oak is unusual but in this case the wine patiently matured. Prior to bottling a small amount of fresher Shiraz was added to produce this beautiful example of Grampians elegance and finesse. Bright red colour with vivid varietal aromas precede a superbly balanced flavour profile with fine grained tannins and persistent palate. There’s little comparison compared to the previous 2015 Blue Label but again a special wine with the hallmarks of a classic Western Victorian Red.
